General Definition

Under general supervision, uses specialized knowledge or skills to perform hardware support and repairs for user departments throughout County Administration. Resolves hardware, software and communication problems/conflicts/defects.   Must work with designated vendor support organization to schedule, install, and trouble shoot problems. May interact with end users; recommend the purchase of inventory, and control supplies and/or parts as well as setup new machines for replacement.

Organizational Relationship

This position receives daily supervision and guidance from the Assistant Director, Applications and Operations.

Typical Tasks

  • Investigates, analyzes, and resolves hardware and associated software and communications problems on County computer system; performs complex hardware repairs and maintenance on a wide range of pc-based computers and peripherals.
  • Provides advanced hardware technical assistance and support; troubleshoots and resolves system hardware, software, and communications failures and conflicts.
  • Serve as the first point of contact for customers seeking technical assistance over the phone or email; alternatively provides a timely response to customer needs based on department policies continuing support after regular business hours being On Call.
  • Installs, integrates, and configures new computer systems and hardware providing the end user with the proper equipment to perform their job functions; ensures that the end user environment is secure from external and internal threats; provides the necessary training and instruction to ensure that the end user is proficient on that equipment.
  • Reviews and processes problem reports; documents the progress of problem resolutions.
  • Maintains a high level quality of customer service standards in dealing with and responding to questions.
  • Create and Maintain the Images required to update and deploy end user computers.
  • Installs and repairs mobile and fixed law enforcement related technology.
  • Maintain an accurate inventory of equipment owned and/or supported throughout the county, county agencies and court system; ensure that all inventory is tagged appropriately; accurately track warranty expiration, locations, and users, etc. for all assets; ensures that the network information is accurate for all equipment and users;
  • Order, maintain, support and document all equipment that the County owns, supports or uses including but not limited to cell phones, printers, monitors, and visual aid equipment.
  • Maintain the level of certification and training required of the current versions of hardware and software enabling the highest level of timely response to problems and the needs of the end user.
  • Performs other miscellaneous job-related duties as may be assigned.

Essential Knowledges, Skills and Abilities

Proficient in current operating system software and most current Windows updates/changes. Technical knowledge needed to determine and insure computer equipment hardware and software needs. Must be able to communicate with County officials, department heads and all personnel using computer equipment.  General knowledge of MS Office programs, and utility programs. Ability to perform advanced complex repairs and upgrades on a wide variety of computers and peripherals.  Knowledge of advanced computer troubleshooting techniques.  Ability to install and configure computer systems, hardware and peripherals. Must have excellent communication and customer service skills.

Training, Education and Experience

Education equal to graduation from high school with specialized training equal to 1-3 years technical work with computers.

Special Requirements and Related Obligations

Licenses and Certificates – A valid Virginia driver’s license. A+, Network +, Windows certification preferred. Effective 7/1/2018, a Microsoft Certified Solutions Associate (MCSA) Certification is required and must be maintained for continued employment. New employees have 6 months from date of hire to pass the “Installing and Configuring Windows 10” (70-698) exam and to pass the “Configuring Windows Devices” (70-697) exam in order to obtain the MCSA Certification.

Physical Demands

Must be able to do computer work while sitting at a desk for extended periods of time.  Should also be able to life at least 50 lbs.  Considerable physical work such as heavy lifting, pushing or pulling required of objects up to 50 pounds.  Physical work is primary part (50%) of job.

Work Environment

The work environment is typical office environment with adequate desk, seating, and lighting for performing desk and personal computer work.  Occasional work may require close quarters while wiring such as in a closet, etc.

General Definition

The essential function of the position within the organization is to assist the Commissioner of the Revenue with administrative tasks and procedures.

Organizational Relationship

Position is supervised by the Commissioner of the Revenue and supports as well as takes direction from the Chief Deputy Commissioner of the Revenue.

Typical tasks

  • Greets and assists visitors;
  • Assists taxpayers on the phone and in person with real estate assessment;
  • Checks and reviews a variety of data for accuracy, completeness and conformance to established standards;

General Definition       

Performs emergency intakes, on-call for hotline coverage including crisis intakes and oversees the safety and security of the shelter program clients for the Family Resource Center during work hours.  

Organizational Relationship

The Crisis Worker is responsible to the Director of the Department of Family Resources or his/her designee.

Typical tasks

  • Monitors the building for client safety by checking external doors and windows; watching the monitors and answering the door through use of the intercom to maintain a safe environment
  • Answers hotline; which includes LAP calls
  • Performs on-call on a rotating basis for crisis eligibility assessments of potential intakes;
  • Maintains a daily log;
  • Cleanliness upkeep of the office area;
  • Assist in the preparation of public awareness and training materials;
  • Maintain and update shelter program resource books of available jobs, housing and area child care;
  • Enter Vadata information onto the proper forms and submit in a timely fashion;
  • Crisis intervention for presenting or potential clients;
  • Assist shelter program clients with needed supplies;
  • Preparation of welcome bags;
  • Itemization of donations accepted in need of tax receipts;
  • Information and Referral assistance to callers;
  • Other duties as may be assigned.

Essential Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Basic knowledge of the dynamics of family violence; basic skills for interacting with individuals in crisis situations and with the general public; knowledge of community resources; basic computer skills; ability to: assist in crisis eligibility assessment of potential intakes, maintain a daily log; ability to handle confidential information; self motivated and able to work with minimum supervision; ability to interpret and apply agency policies and procedures; ability to utilize office software and email.

Training, Education and Experience

Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school. Possess a basic knowledge of the dynamics of family violence. Knowledge of local community resources desirable.  

Special Requirements and Related Obligations

Must be available to work rotating shift with varying hours, including but not limited to evenings, nights and weekends. The successful applicant will possess and maintain a valid Virginia Motor Vehicle Operator’s License. General Definition

Performs skilled work maintaining County Facilities and infrastructure.  Works to insure compliance with all regulatory agencies and assures that all County properties are safe and accessible.  Responsibilities include supervising routine maintenance and cleaning activities; project management of improvements completed by in-house staff and outside contractors.

Organizational Relationship

Position is under the general supervision of the Director of General Properties.

Typical Tasks

  • Schedules and sets priorities for maintenance and repair work on County buildings, vehicles and equipment. Plans, implements and evaluates all divisional programs and activities;
  • Performs buildings and grounds repair and maintenance jobs as required such as painting; carpentry, electrical, equipment maintenance and repair, masonry or refinishing jobs;
  • Assigns, schedules and directs the work of subordinates engaged in the maintenance of public buildings and grounds;
  • Checks and repairs infrastructure including maintenance equipment and other equipment;
  • Coordinates records, writes necessary reports and memoranda, coordinates maintenance and repair work with other departments and divisions in conformity to safety requirements;
  • Coordinates use of vendors for buildings, vehicles and equipment repair work;
  • Provides technical assistance in the development of service contracts and performs administration of contracts;

  • Reviews construction and project plans and sites; provides technical advice on installation and maintenance aspects of construction projects; interpret and explain standards; makes corrections; takes and recommends alternative courses of action;
  • Provides input on new projects and improvement plans; plans, coordinates and supervises smaller renovation projects; meets with contractors; provides direction, coordination and assistance to various departments, outside agencies and community groups; assists in preparing specification, selecting contractors and supervising larger projects;

Thorough knowledge of property maintenance and the equipment and tasks related to maintenance of public buildings; thorough knowledge of building codes and fire code and the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the work; ability to exercise independent judgment in determining operation conditions; ability to plan, schedule and supervise the work of maintenance staff; thorough knowledge of plumbing, electrical, building and turf management, and ability to establish and maintain accurate records.  Thorough knowledge of modern construction practices, materials, methods and equipments; ability to read plans, blueprints and other construction documents. Ability to interpret and work from drawings, specifications and other technical materials. Ability to produce good oral and written communication skills; excellent interpersonal skills required.

Training, Education and Experience

Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school or vocation school and extensive experience including some experience in building maintenance work and project coordination.

Special Requirements and Related Obligations

Certification in one or more of building trades may be required.  May be required to obtain specialized certifications as necessary. Position may require evening, weekend, holiday or irregular work schedule. Possession of a valid driver’s license issued by the Commonwealth of Virginia. Physical Demands

Involves frequent walking and occasionally over rough or uneven terrain; lifting and carrying objects weighing 15-50 pounds, with occasional lifting of items weighing over 100 pounds.  Involves climbing ladders, stooping and crawling in confined spaces. Frequent operation of vehicles, shop and hand tools, requiring manipulative skills and hand-eye coordination.

Work Environment

In general the job is performed in a climate controlled office setting.  However, outdoor visits to sites with various terrain and in varying weather conditions may occur during all seasons of the year.

Franklin County Parks & Recreation Dept - Part-Time

Franklin County seeks a Field/Facility/Events Supervisor for Parks and Recreation Duties include:  performing responsible work in a public setting; supervision of assigned facility &  performing duties that will provide a safe and healthy atmosphere for players, spectators, parents, officials & volunteers. Must ensure facilities are maintained in a safe/clean environment during the course of the activity. Assist with Special Events as needed.  Hours are 10 – 15 per week, no benefits. Basic sports knowledge preferred. Excellent communication, diplomacy & conflict management skills required. Requires a 21 yr old person w/HS Grad or GED and some work exp.
